Biography
Eleanor Briggs grew up in Hereford and began singing at a young age. She trained as a Scholar at both the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department and at the Royal College of Music, where she gained an Honours degree in Oboe & Voice. She was Choral Scholar at St Martin-in-the-Fields (2005), and was a member of the professional Choir of St Michael's Cornhill (2006-2007) where she still performs as soloist. She now studies privately with Russell Smythe whilst attending Morley Opera School, and will begin a MMus in Singing at Trinity College of Music in September 2008. Recent successes include Second Prize in the North London Festival of Music Oratorio Competition.
Eleanor has sung as Ensemble with Opera South, Chelsea Opera Group, and Opera de Baugé (France). Her solo roles comprise Celia (Iolanthe), Pamina (Die Zauberflote), Miss Polly Peachum (The Beggar's Opera), The Plaintiff (Trial by Jury), Sally Fox (Martha), Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia), Belinda (Dido & Aeneas), Ilia (Idomeneo), First Lady (Die Zauberflote) and Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica).
Eleanor's solo concert and oratorio experience includes performances with the London Mozart Players, The Noyse of Musicke, and the Worshipful Company of Musicians in repertoire such as Mozart's Coronation Mass, JS Bach Cantata 147, the Vivaldi Gloria, Carl Orff Carmina Burana, Handel's Dixit Dominus and The Messiah, and recitals at St Pancras Euston, St Mary-at-Hill (City of London), St Paul's Covent Garden and Hereford Cathedral.
